History of Change Ambassadors Network – CAN
Change Ambassadors Network, CAN, was founded on the 8th September, 2013 at a meeting attended by vibrant and progressive old students of comprehensive High School, Alapere (CHSA). The meeting was attended by alumni from the class of 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010.
The meeting was called at the behest of Adeyemi Olalemi (07), Jeffrey Onah (08) and Emmanuel Ojajuni (10) who were instrumental to the sets merger and the formation of CAN.
The name Change Ambassadors Network was adopted as the name of alumni group following a successful merging of four Alumni sets and because of the new vision by the Alumni group to make positive change and impact in the society.
The name, vision and mission statement as proposed by Adeyemi Olalemi were approved by members present at the September 8 General meeting. Yetunde Musari designed the CAN Logo which is still being used till today.
Ruth Ogboji and Amusiru Wale composed the rhythmic and beautiful CAN Anthem.
CAN constitution was first drafted in 2015 by a 5-man committee led by Kelvin Davies. In 2019, the draft constitution was reviewed by a 5-man committee headed by Awopeju Seyi and was finally adopted and ratified at a general meeting held on the 1st September, 2019.
On the 30th October, 2013, CAN had its first empowerment program in CHSA (our Alma mata) tagged Back to Base Empowerment, a name proposed by Emmanuel Ojajuni.
The empowerment program was carefully planned to inspire students of CHSA to academic and career excellence. CAN was more determined to flag off the program after the then Principal of the school, Mr Animashaun disclosed how academic performance of the students had dwindled.
The maiden event featured Seminar, inspirational talks from renowned motivational speaker Sebastine Nwaneri. Prizes ranging from books, life-changing magazines and awards were given to students who performed well academically. It was indeed the most impactful event ever held in the school.
After the empowerment program, it became clear to all that we as Alumni members in CAN have come together to make real impact – a clear departure from the old order where some Alumni groups were formed to organize party.
The awards presentation continued in 2014 with brilliant Joseph Ukeme receiving the prestigious CAN Award and in 2015, it was the turn of blazing Animashaun Rasheedat Omotayo and Okorire to be awarded by CAN for their exceptional academic performance.
Back to Base empowerment in 2016 was awesome, with Barrister Oluwatoyosi Oluwatosin Abikoye unlocking great potentials in the students with an eye-opening and targeted training on becoming a high-flyer. Awards were also presented to two best graduating students, Omoyele Elizabeth and Nwanoro Prince. Also, a standard glass notice board was donated to the school. At CAN, we never look back, the empowerment program continues and it’s making real impact in the lives of the students with load of great testimonies of academic excellence from the students.
On the 26th December, 2013, CAN held its first elaborate and most glamorous Reunion event for the three merged sets at Micmary Hall, Alapere. It was the first time, new generation of CHSA alumni will move reunion to an event hall unlike in the past where reunion by individual set were held as parlour party. It was a new dawn in the history of Old Student Reunion in Comprehensive High School Alapere.
Till this day, the reunion which holds every two years (odd number) remains the largest gathering of CHSA Alumni, networking, opening opportunities to members of the organization and celebrating our successes.
Despite challenges, CAN has made landmark achievement with programs like Back To Base Empowerment Initiative, Reunion, Google Digital Skills Training For Students and Alumni members, Facebook Boost Your Business training for alumni, Presentation of Free Uniforms, Desk and Chairs, Awards, Notice Board. etc.
To achieve her goals and objectives, CAN has continually formed strategic partnership with corporate organisations, and Non-governmental Organisations with similar objectives.
At CAN… we believe in doing much more for humanity and living a life of impact because what we do for ourselves dies with us but what we do for others lives beyond us.
